The course is offered to doctoral researchers within the frame of the Blended Intensive Programme “Understanding – the researchers’ perspectives and knowledge production.” During the course, participants familiarize with the skills of creating sustained arguments in scholarly writing, the basics of scholarly argumentation both in longer article and shorter essay formats, and venture into putting acquired skills into practice by producing a short argumentative essay by the end of the course.

The course consists of two days, in a block seminar format: 27 October and 15 December 2023. The first day of the course consists of a training in scholarly argumentation, involving small writing exercises and a few reading assignments pre-circulated before the course start (available to download from the beginning of October). The first seminar day concludes with a practical assignment of participants to produce on short argumentative essay in the 7 weeks gap between the two seminar days. The assignments will be discussed and evaluated by the group on the second seminar day in mid-December.
