The course provides an introduction to the fundamental physical principles of semiconductor materials and their role in modern electronic devices. It covers the band structure and electronic properties of semiconductors, their charge-transport and optical properties, and important quantum effects that emerge in low-dimensional and nanoscale systems. Building on these fundamentals, the course introduces silicon technology and semiconductor device physics, before concluding with emerging materials, concepts, and future semiconductor technologies and devices.
