The course will introduce students to the topic of transnational migration and the use of “new media”, which is a growing field of research in media sociology. The course will provide the students with the main analytical tools for a sociological understanding of the appropriation of “new technologies” in transnational migrants’ everyday life and communicative practices among “digital diasporas”. Through research-based papers, academic literature, ethnographies, and case studies the seminar course will encourage students to discuss current themes and topics as well as methodological and conceptual approaches within the inevitably interconnected fields of media sociology and migration sociology.
